History of Laredo College
Laredo College has served the Laredo community for more than 75 years, providing accessible and affordable education to generations of students.
The college was established as Laredo Junior College on September 28, 1946, following approval by voters of the Laredo Independent School District, and opened in 1947. In its early years, classes were held in temporary facilities, including local high schools, reflecting the community’s strong commitment to expanding educational opportunities.
As enrollment grew, the college relocated in the 1960s to its current campus on West End Washington Street, where it expanded its academic programs and facilities. In 1993, the institution became Laredo Community College, and in 2004, the South Campus was established to serve the growing population of South Laredo.
In 2018, the institution was renamed Laredo College, reflecting its continued growth and broader mission.
Today, Laredo College offers a wide range of academic and workforce programs designed to meet the needs of its students and the regional economy. The college serves Webb, Jim Hogg, and Zapata counties and remains committed to student success, innovation, and community engagement.
