Academic Fresh Start
Under Texas Education Code Section 51.931, a Texas resident applying for admission or readmission to a Texas public college or university may elect an Academic Fresh Start. Laredo College's Academic Fresh Start Program allows coursework completed 10 or more years before the requested enrollment date to be disregarded for admission purposes. Disregarded courses and grades remain on the student's official transcript but are not considered for admission, awarded as course credit, applied toward a degree, included in grade point average (GPA) or academic-standing calculations, or used to satisfy prerequisite requirements.
Students electing Academic Fresh Start must complete the Academic Fresh Start Agreement through the Office of Admissions prior to registration. Applicants must meet all Laredo College admission requirements and submit official transcripts from all colleges and universities previously attended. Students who have previously earned a certificate or degree from Laredo College remain eligible to apply for an Academic Fresh Start. Students must also satisfy applicable Texas Success Initiative Assessment (TSIA2) requirements for their program of study.
For financial aid purposes, all previously attempted credits and enrollment periods must continue to be considered under applicable federal requirements.
