Associate of Arts (AA) or Associate of Science (AS)
Laredo College offers general Associate of Arts and Associate of Science degrees. These are designed to provide students with a broad, balanced two-year education. AA and AS degrees are not awarded in specific academic disciplines. To earn the degree, students must complete a minimum of 60 semester credit hours (SCH), including 42 SCH from the Texas Core Curriculum.
Students planning to transfer to a university to pursue a baccalaureate degree should consult with an academic advisor to ensure their elective coursework aligns with the requirements of their intended major.

Corresponding labs for science lectures are not considered core curriculum requirements. However, students are strongly encouraged to verify if a lab component is required for their program of study since most universities require labs, especially for science majors. Students must contact the transfer institution before registering or deferring to register for any science lab component.

Eighteen hours of field of study elective courses are required. These are based on the student's declared major and transfer institution (university). The student is strongly encouraged to consult with an academic or faculty advisor for appropriate field of study electives. Laredo College Core Curriculum
Laredo College’s Core Curriculum provides students with a foundation of knowledge of human cultures and the physical and natural world, develop principles of personal and social responsibility for living in a diverse world, and advance intellectual and practical skills that are essential for all learning. Students planning to continue their education toward a baccalaureate degree can complete core curriculum courses to transfer that block of courses to any Texas public college or university. Articulation agreements with other Texas colleges and universities mean seamless transfer. Laredo College's Core requirements are in 3-hour increments. However, some courses offered, such as Mathematics and Life and Physical Sciences, are 4-hour classes. Any overflow (extra) hours above the required Core of 42 hours will apply to the degree requirements.

Courses in this category focus on developing ideas and expressing them clearly, considering the effect of the message, fostering understanding and building the skills needed to communicate persuasively. Courses involve the command of oral, aural, written and visual literacy skills that enable people to exchange messages appropriate to the subject, occasion and audience.
