Field of Study Curriculum
As part of the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board’s Texas Transfer Framework, the Field of Study Curriculum (FOSC) provides a set of lower-division courses designed to seamlessly transfer to degree programs, in accordance with Texas Education Code, Chapter 61, Section 61.823
Each FOSC is structured with the following components:
- Courses from the Texas Core Curriculum that are relevant to the discipline
- Up to 12 semester credit hours of Discipline Foundation Courses
- At least 6 semester credit hours of Directed Electives, determined by faculty at Texas public institutions and shared on the THECB website
When a student completes an FOSC and transfers to another Texas public institution, the entire block of FOSC courses will transfer and count toward the student’s major. If the student has also completed the Texas Core Curriculum and any institution-wide requirements, they will have satisfied all lower-division coursework.
For students transferring with only part of the FOSC completed, the courses already completed will transfer and apply to the degree program, however the receiving institution may require the completion of additional lower-division courses.
