Academic Standing Standard of Work
Laredo College's Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) for determining Academic standing into one of the following three categories is as follows and differs from the Financial Aid Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP).
Good Standing
Students must maintain a 2.0+ overall grade point average (GPA) at the end of every semester and summer session.
In determining academic standing, transfer credit grades do impact the overall GPA earned at Laredo College.
Academic Warning
(formerly Scholastic Warning)
The first time a student’s overall grade point average (GPA) falls below a 2.0, the student will be placed on 'Academic Warning' status.
The 'Academic Warning' status indicates to the student that the grades earned in the next enrollment term must be improved to meet the required 2.0 grade point average (GPA) for Academic Good Standing.
If the grades earned in the next enrollment term result in an overall minimum 2.0 grade point average (GPA) or higher, the 'Academic Warning' status will be removed and the student will go back to 'Good Standing'. If the overall grade point average remains below a 2.0 GPA at the end of the grades earned during the next enrollment term, the student will be placed on 'Academic Suspension' status.
Academic Suspension
Students on 'Academic Warning' status who fail to meet the minimum 2.0 overall grade point average (GPA) in the next enrollment period, will be placed on 'Academic Suspension'.
Students on 'Academic Suspension' may submit an appeal to the Academic Appeals Committee at the Advising Center to petition enrollment for the following Fall or Spring term. The number of semester credit hours (SCH) allowed for enrollment will be restricted as per the approval of the committee. These appeals are not guaranteed and must be thoroughly completed and submitted by the respective deadlines.
Students on 'Academic Suspension' from another college or university may submit an appeal to petition for enrollment to the Academic Appeals Committee at the Advising Center and are expected to follow the guidelines as set forth by this Catalog. Transfer students who are on 'Academic Suspension' from another college or university are responsible for their academic standing at that institution, as some colleges/universities penalize students who are on suspension and attend college elsewhere.
Removal of 'Academic Suspension' during Summer Session
Students on 'Academic Suspension' may enroll for classes during the summer session(s) without having to submit an appeal. If the overall grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 or better is reached with the addition of the earned grades during the summer session(s), students will be removed from the 'Academic Suspension' status and placed in Academic 'Good Standing'.
Students who demonstrate satisfactory academic progress during the summer session(s) (summer term grade point average (GPA) is a 2.0 or higher) but whose overall grade point average (GPA) is still below a 2.0, may be changed to 'Academic Probation' status.
Students on 'Academic Probation' will be allowed to register for subsequent terms as long as the student meets with an academic advisor for mentoring and planning to improve and regain 'Good Standing' status.
