Library Services
Information Resources
The Laredo College Libraries provide access to a variety of print and digital resources, available in both physical and virtual environments, to support the information needs of students, staff, faculty, administration, and community users. These service-oriented institutions offer high-quality access services, including assistance with locating information and resources. Librarians are available to provide specialized research support, bibliographic instruction, and collection development.
The libraries participate in TexShare, a statewide library resource-sharing program, and offer a faculty reserve collection for students at the circulation desk. A special collections room houses rare books of local, regional, and state interest. Interlibrary loan services are available free of charge for students, faculty, and staff. The libraries are open evenings and weekends to support study and research. The collection primarily focuses on supporting the Laredo College curriculum, with over 100,000 volumes available in print and electronic formats, including e-books, periodicals, and online databases with access to full-text journal articles.
Library Spaces
The Harold R. Yeary Library provides ample seating in an open learning commons area. In addition to a periodical reading area, there are study rooms available for group collaboration and learning. The library also features microfilm readers, photocopiers, a computer lab, and a bibliographic instructional lab. The Senator Judith Zaffirini Library similarly offers an open learning commons area with photocopiers, study rooms, student computers, and a bibliographic instructional lab. Both libraries have computers with free internet access and various software programs for currently enrolled students, faculty, and staff. Online and internet services are accessible throughout both buildings.
Library Systems
The Laredo College Libraries use a comprehensive integrated library system called Symphony, provided by SirsiDynix, which enhances access and research capabilities for students, faculty, staff, and community users. They also use EBSCO Discovery Services (EDS), an all-inclusive search solution for easy, in-depth research. The online catalog is accessible on or off campus for currently enrolled students, faculty, and staff and can be found at https://library.laredo.edu.
